Barry Bonds Home Run Record, Tainted or not?
Friday, July 20, 2007

Barry Bonds is 2 home runs off Hank Aarons career home run record of 755. Is this record tainted? Or Not? My feeling is that it is nice to see records broken because this sets the standards of future generations. Should this record have an asterisk by it because of the supposedly use of steroids? In the 90's anabolic drug use and steroids use was not illegal, it does not make it right, but it was not illegal. It is nice to see high scoring baseball games and home runs verses low scoring pitchers duels. Since I am close to Chicago, and Barry played against the Cubs this week, if I would have paid $200 to see all four games thinking that the record would/could have been broken and Barry Bonds only played in one and hit 2 home runs I would of been furious. What are your thoughts on the record being broken and the use of drugs and steroids in the game of baseball?

May the force be with you, SportsDork36

Even though I should agree with you because you are my wonderful husband ;) I do not think steriods or any anabolic drugs are the way to go in any sports, I dont care if they were legal at the time or not. Our youth, not to mention (our) children look up to these players. I hope this player does break the record, but I hope he does get an asterick by his name, whatever the heck that is, lol.

I don't think there is enough testing done. Steroids shouldn't be allowed for the sake of entertainment and breaking records. Look at the Chris Benoit tragedy. It is a tragedy kids are looking up to people sports heroes on steroids and actresses on coke. Even if he breaks a record, he shouldn't get any credit for it - bc using steroids is no better than using a corked bat.

I would have to disagree. Using a Cork bat was cheating back in the day and steriods were not. While I do agree that these kids look up to them they should have there parents as role models. This is no different that the bands they look up to doing drugs. Because the record is about to be broken I feel that it is great for baseball because it has put fans in the seats.

Steriods may not of been illegal at the time, but it is still morally wrong, and it is not what we want our kids to look up to. Do you want your son to do steriods just to make a team? Just to do better? Then have all those raging side affects? Steriods do not make a better baseball game, they are still boring as hell anyway. I feel sorry for all the wives of steriod players, dont they cause small penis's lol. You better get some men to back you up on this subject, because if not, you are going down! This is no different than little girls looking up to Coke head Lindsey Blowhan, do you want your daughter to go see her movies? Do you want your daughters to be like her? I dont think so!

I completly understand but watching games that are low scoring are boring. I feel that it is wrong also. No I would not want my son doing they I would Kill him. I think if he has the talent that get him there then good.

So you are pretty much admitting steriods are fine for the use of baseball just to make the game more interesting? But for your child it is not fine. You can not have it both ways?

The problem is that they cannot test for HGH. Steroids is out of baseball. HGH is the new deal until it can be tested. Give the gift of life...give blood and the truth shall set you free.

How do you know that cannot test for HGH. I thought that they could.

It is a blood test and the MLBPA won't allow for blood testing

That is unfortunate, until MLBPA does allow for all blood testing to check for all of these drugs, they are saying that it is ok for players to do them, and for future players to follow in there footsteps, bigger players, stronger players, more fans, more money, so sad..

I think that this record is tainted. It's bad enough that the ballparks are being designed to be more home-run friendly. The baseball itself has been made to be easier to hit out of the park, and the bats are better than the ones used by the greats of the past. Even with all this, Bonds has had to use steroids to accomplish this feat. It is definitely tainted, and I think out of respect for Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth there should be a mark next to Bonds name.

Your are just saying this because you are a yankee fan. and you dont want to see him in front of babe ruth. I feel the same way. but it really has be fun watching high scoring games. Also I am going to shoot this at you what is your thinking if I said that Roger Clemens is on the Juice or HGH.?

Hey, if Ruth could do it on pizza and beer than Bonds has no excuse.

Seriously, if Roger was shown to be involved, then, as far as I'm concerned his achievements are in question as well.

This is a quote from Barry himself

"This record is not tainted at all. At all. Period,"

I feel the same way. He is being prosecuted and there is nothing showing he did do them.
